Where did the first half of the year go?!

Man, is it ever flying by!

Here marks my official halfway point to blog 365. In some ways it hasn't been as bad as I thought it could be. I think mostly because I just write a little blurb and maybe load a pic or two... I'm so lazy. But there are other days when I just have no idea what I am going to write about and it hangs over me until right before bedtime when I just have to hammer something out. (And then there was that night when I almost forgot to blog altogether and Jacob saved me!)

If you've been along for the ride so far, I thank you. Not every post is a darling picture of Lily and I appreciate you sticking with me.

Here's to the next half a year!

I hope I can think of something good to write....

Too Quiet

It got a little too quiet yesterday afternoon. So I went looking for the girl.

Lily found the paper shredder and thought it'd be fun to make it "snow."

Don't panic.... it's unplugged, you can see if you look closely. And now it's up high where she cannot reach it again.

Day Off

It's Sunday.

And it was 106 out on our deck today.

So we decided to take a day off from all our running around. We went to mass early and stopped at the farmers market to get produce on the way home. Lil and I stayed home all day after that.

In that spirit, this is the end of my entry for today. ;)

Swim Lesson

Auntie Stevie is here!

She surprised us and showed up yesterday afternoon.

Stevie used to lifeguard and teach swim lessons every summer for years! and so Lil got her first private swim lessson today.

Now Lele can kick on command, will splash out in front of her body with her hands, isn't afraid to get her ears wet, and is tempted to try and put her face in the water something terrible! Ah, just one step in the direction of water awareness.

More Bathing

It seems the latest fave activity for Lil is outdoor bathing. First North Carolina, then Coarsegold, CA and now Herald too. At least she gets to have fun playing in the water first and ends up clean in the end. :)

Back Again

A couple of pictures... as promised.

Lily had a great time visiting with Great Grandpa Vance and Great Grandma Mary. They have all kinds of neat things to explore and play with.

Grandpa even made Lil a sand"bucket" when they saw how much she loves to dig.

Which gave Grandma a perfect chance to give the girl a bath in the outdoor sink. I'm not sure who enjoyed who more. ;)

Out of the Office

House... Office... whatever.

I'm no where near a computer tonight. We are staying in a Casino Hotel, just north of Coarsegold, CA where Lele's Great Grandparents live. We're out visiting. :)

Pictures to follow.

Technical Difficulties

I beg your forgiveness.

I’m trying to blog everyday but I am currently staying at my parents… where they still have dial-up internet. It’s a slow process posting pictures and loading pages but I am trying.

No pics today. :(

Mmmm, Breakfast

Gramma gave Lil a whole banana for breakfast this morning... in the peel and everything!

Gramma's house sure is fun!

Driving with Gram

It's Lele's first time behind the wheel and she's not even a year and a half yet! I blame Gramma.

Mom had to look for something in the car... a phone number or something... and Lil wanted to help but when she got up in the seat with Gram the steering wheel was much more interesting!

She hasn't found the horn yet. ;)

Cali!

We made it! We got in at about midnight last night and are still trying to adjust our internal clocks. Poor Lily doesn't know if she is coming or going. I think she grazed all day long, not knowing if it was snack time or meal time or what.

The weather here is gorgeous! There was a nice light breeze all day long and the humidity is nothing like in North Carolina! I hear its supposed to get warmer for the next few days but I'm not complaining, since it at least gets cool enough over night to sleep with the windows open. :)

My sister came up from Yosemite for the night, for Father's Day and to see Lil. So we are enjoying her company. Hope to have some pictures tomorrow.

Traveling Tomorrow

Packing.

Anxiety.

Talk to you tomorrow... or maybe the next day.

Jackson Campbell

This sweet little guy is my buddy Jackson.

He's going to be coming to stay with Lily and I during the day, when his mom has to go back to work. I could just eat him up!

You can see a few more of Jackson's pics at the blog for Bloom Photography.

Out for a Ride

We got back from the pool on Saturday, (it was crowded!) and Lily just wasn't quite ready to go in the house yet.

So she went for a cruise around the backyard on her trike.

Have I mentioned how independent she is? Notice that she cannot reach the pedals, but she scoots it around all by herself until she gets stuck in a rut in the grass. (The former tenants had a big dog who liked to dig.) Then she says, "hap," until you come help her get unstuck, but don't try to push her or she'll tell you off.

She is soooo my kid.

Ugly Bug

Scared the bejeezers out of me while I was weeding in the garden earlier. I was lifting the leaves of my hosta to see if any sneaky undesirables were hiding out and this dude was just chilling there. He never moved. I have no idea what kind of bug he is. But I do know he's ugly!

Ew!

Rare

Usually Lily likes to cuddle and watch TV with Daddy. (Notice how you always get pictures of Lele and Jake.) I just happened to luck out yesterday. For some reason when she gets up to sit on the couch with me, she thinks it's time to nurse, so the cuddles are rare. Normally she either pitches a fit because I tell her no, or nurses and then jumps up to go play again as soon as she is finished.

I guess I just have to take what I can get....

The Collector

Lily has turned into quite a collector. She collects piles of things and then moves them from one place to another.

A few days ago, I had the honor of being that place.

All I want to do is read my book!

Excuses

So we just had a lovely visit, and by just I mean last week, from a friend we knew in Germany.

Kelly Williams was here at Fort Bragg doing some training for just over a week and kindly let me feed her a few evenings. :) Oh, and hung out for a bit too!

But she did do one unforgivable thing. Yes, I'm talking to you Kelly! She introduced us to a website called King.com where you can play free online games.

And now Jacob is addicted.

So I have briefly booted him off the computer so that I can tell ya'll hi, I love you and goodnight.

Now I have to give the computer back. :(

My View of the Game

I'm still playing with and enjoying my pictures from DC.

Our seats at the National vs. Orioles game were so sweet! Have a look:

Mostly this was an excuse to us the panorama tool in photoshop.... Sorry about the exposure change there on the right... you're so nice to indulge me.

For My Bro

One day during our trip to Washington DC we were out for a touristy drive and out the window I spotted this:
Thank goodness I got the window down fast enough to get a shot!

Dear Gramma Vera,

Dear Gramma Vera,

Guess what? It's getting closer to the day when I will come to your house. Mom says 10 more days.

I'm going to bring a few of my favorite toys, like my magna-doodle and my stacking cups, and some of my favorite books. I hope you have some great stories to introduce to me too!

Gramma can you please have mini-nilla wafers, blueberries and yogurt when I come. I also like dried mango for a special treat.

Oh and I can't wait to show you how much I love to dance!

Love,
Lily

I'm only a little bit sorry to do it to you

Do you hate forwarded emails? I do, but this was so cute I wanted to share.

At least I didn't forward it to you....

A Year Ago Today

Last year, today, Lil and I were in California to help celebrate my sister's college graduation. But being the graduation time of year, we attended a couple of different graduation parties... this one for some family friends.

Just barely making it into the foreground is Jackie, and then there's Jake, Lil and I, and Gramma Vera. And just in case you were wondering, yes, I did have some of that bottle of wine in front of me. :)

Travel Plans

Its going to be that time again....

Block Leave.

Just 13 short days and we'll be on an airplane to California! After all the fun Lil and I had flying back from Oklahoma I learned that Lily really does need her own seat on the plane. So we'll be toting the car-seat with us... yes, we are that family.

I'm excited to be heading to California and to visit friends and family, but sadly block leave means Jacob is getting ready to go. He heads to Afghanistan sometime mid-August. Gosh that is sneaking up quick.

Twilight - Again

We watched the movie last week.

I was disappointed. Maybe because I had read the book recently and could remember so many narratives that couldn't be translated to the screen. Or maybe because the special effects were really bad! If you can't show a vampire running without looking totally cheesy, can't you make them just some kind of blur or something?

And no... the movie will not deter me in any way from reading the next book...

... if I ever get my hands on it....

Pool Party

We were out watering the garden yesterday when Lil turned the hose on her toes and giggled so sweetly that I pulled out the wading pool.

Which proceeded to get fuller and fuller as she played.

Oooo, pretty water arches.

And then she decided to sit....

And then she fell.

So we decided just to take her clothes off, which quickly became water toys.

So cute!

And since we had already lost our clothes... it wasn't long before the diaper came off too.

After a while we remembered we were supposed to be watering the garden. And Lily got back to work. :)

More Fruit

We finally had a red tomato...

If they ever all ripen at the same time I will be so tomato-rich.

And check out the size of these Zuchs! They were not that big yesterday!!!

GamerGirl

Have you met GamerGirl?

We got a Wii a couple of weeks back. Lily loves it. She does all the workout moves with me when I play EA Active. My favorite is when she crouches down to touch her toes. :)

But the best part is that she thinks she can play it by herself. She even knows how to hold both controllers properly!

...I'm not so sure that's a good thing....

I Made This - Part 3

My (latest) purse. :) Just enough to hold a phone, wallet and keys.
